Mindstorm features on The X Factor 2011

Once again, Mindstorm delivered the technology that helped the UK’s X Factor judges to choose the candidates in the X Factor show that broadcast on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 on ITV1.

In 2009, Mindstorm’s Aurora interactive table was used by the judges to make the final selection of candidates during boot camp. This year, working closely with the X Factor team, we upped the ante on a larger, multi-user, multi-touch, vertical Mindstorm surface, the Mindstorm iWall.  Judges could not only view photos of the contestants, they could also review all audition videos in an intuitive and interactive way.

Filming for this year’s session took place in August at Altitude 360 London at the top of Milbank Tower with breathtaking views over the Thames, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.  With only only 30 minutes to get our the iWall into position and test the software,  the setup went without a hitch and the judges immediately went to work.

It is exciting to see how quickly new users grasp how to work with interactive surfaces.  By making any audition video available just by touching a candidate’s picture, the judges could easily review and make comparisons as a group - a great  demonstration of the power of our easy to use multi-user, multi-touch interface.
